New 7 Wonders Foundation's Seven Wonders of the World:
In 2001 an proposal was started by the Swiss corporation New seven Wonders Foundation to choose the New Seven Wonders of the World from a selection of 200 existing monuments for profit.
Twenty-one finalists were announced January 1, 2006. Egypt was not happy with the fact that the only original wonder would have to compete with the likes of the Statue of Liberty, the Sydney Opera House, and other landmarks; and called the project absurd. To solve this, Giza was named an voluntary Candidate. The result were announced on July 7, 2007 in Benfica's stadium in a big ceremony in Lisbon, capital of Portugal, and are listed here:
1: Great Wall of China, 5th century BCE – 16th century CE in China, Asia.
2: Petra Unknown in Jordan, Asia.
3: Christ the Redeemer, Opened 12 October 1931, in Brazil, South America.
4: Machu Picchu, c.1450 in Peru, South America.
5: Chichen Itza, c.600, in Mexico, South America.
6: Roman Colosseum, Completed 80 CE in Italy, Europe.
7: Taj Mahal Completed c.1648 in India Asia.
8: Great Pyramid (Honorary Candidate), Completed c.2560 BCE in Egypt Asia.
